HR and payroll teams paying overtime from device attendance
How to Calculate Overtime from Biometric Attendance
Overtime is the time an employee works after the scheduled end of the shift, taken from the last punch of the day. In WatheeqaHR the hours are priced either as basic salary ÷ scheduled hours × an overtime multiplier (1.5 by default in the UAE, adjustable) or at a fixed hourly rate, and night overtime is counted separately. The free attendance analyzer also flags days longer than 12 and 16 hours so they can be checked first.
Steps
-
Set the scheduled shift
Overtime is measured against the shift end in your work calendar, so set the shift times, weekly off days and holidays first.
-
Take the last punch of the day
The last exit punch is the departure time. Time after the shift end is the candidate overtime for that day.
-
Apply your company's rule
Some companies only count overtime after a threshold (for example 30 minutes after shift end). WatheeqaHR lets you set when overtime starts, so short stays are not paid as overtime unless you want them to be.
-
Price the hours
With the multiplier method, hourly rate = basic salary ÷ scheduled monthly hours, multiplied by the overtime multiplier. Some companies pay a fixed hourly amount instead; both are supported.
-
Review very long days before paying
Days over 12 hours, and especially over 16 hours, are often a forgotten exit punch rather than real overtime. The free analyzer flags them so they are checked before they reach payroll.
